Nearly a month ago, terrorists attacked our country and our sense of security. We have known since the attacks occurred that action would be taken. Today, with the support of peace-loving nations around the world, the United States responded.
Our nation stands united behind the President and the men and women of our armed forces in our efforts to protect American citizens against terrorism. Our thoughts and prayers are with our troops and their families. All Americans owe them a debt of gratitude as they are called upon to protect our country.
Today's action is necessary in our ongoing struggle against terrorism. It is important to note that this is not a struggle between the U.S. and Islam or the U.S. and the Afghani people. This is a struggle between freedom-loving peoples and those who would do us harm. While we seek justice from those who perpetrated the events of September 11th, the United States will provide food, medicine and other humanitarian aid to help the Afghani people.
Today, we are united, not just as a country, but as a world. Together, we will let terrorists know that these attacks will not stand. We will join together, speak with one voice, and do everything we can to ensure our safety and to answer the acts of September 11th with justice.
