(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) issued the following statement after Republicans once again blocked a critical bill that would have extended unemployment insurance for people out of work in Washington state.

“I am absolutely furious that once again Republicans have blocked us from passing an extension of critically needed support for struggling families in Washington state. By blocking this bill, Republicans have shown yet again that they put posturing before people, politics before families, and point scoring before the needs of struggling Americans.

“I have received hundreds of letters from Washington residents asking, and sometimes pleading, for these critical benefits to be restored. People have written to me about living off credit cards, moving in with family, and going to food banks for their meals. It's a lifeline many in our state thought they would never need, but now don’t know what they would do without.

“I am going to keep fighting to help Washington state workers get the support they need to keep their head above water while they look for work. I urge Republicans to stop blocking passage and work with us to get this done.”
