Senator Murray issued the following statement today as the international community marks the 60th Anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz.
“This week’s anniversary of the Auschwitz liberation reminds me of my emotional visit to Auschwitz and Birkenau in August 1998. It is very difficult to describe the emotions of visiting Auschwitz, seeing the personal belongings of Jews from all over Europe, and walking the grounds of humanity’s darkest history. I commend Vice President Cheney and Congressman Tom Lantos for representing our country at the important commemoration events in Poland.”
Murray visited Auschwitz on August 26, 1998 during an official trip to Poland, Hungary and the Czech Republic.
