Senator Murray Announces $6 Million in Energy Efficiency Rebates for Washington State Families

Funding will help families save money on energy, encourage purchase of cleaner, greener appliances

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) announced that $6,283,775 has been awarded to Washington state by the U.S. Department of Energy to give consumers rebates on ENERGY STAR qualified home appliances. These awards were funded under the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).

“These rebates will help families save money on their energy bills by giving a strong incentive to buy new, energy efficient household appliances,” said Senator Patty Murray. “Helping families purchase energy efficient appliance is good for the economy and it is good for the environment.”

Washington state’s funds come from $300 million set aside in ARRA for energy efficiency rebates.

Washington state consumers can find information on additional ENERGY STAR rebates.

As a senior member of the Senate committee overseeing Energy funding, Sen. Murray worked to ensure that investments in energy technology were included in the Recovery Act.  Senator Murray voted to pass the Recovery Act on February 13th. The bill was signed into law by President Obama on February 17th.
