(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), released the following statement on the American Power Act, the comprehensive energy independence and climate change legislation rolled out today by Senators Kerry and Lieberman.
“I am very glad that Senators Kerry and Lieberman released this legislation today. The American Power Act is a bold step forward, and they have worked hard to craft a draft bill that cuts carbon emissions and increases our nation’s investments in clean energy alternatives.
“We need comprehensive energy and climate change legislation to help American workers continue doing what they do best: innovating, creating, and driving our 21st century economy forward. Our country desperately needs to move away from our dangerous dependence on foreign oil that is so damaging to our national security. And climate change is one of the most critical issues facing our nation, especially in Washington state where we stand to lose so much from rising sea levels and increasingly severe storms.
“This bill is a work in progress, and I look forward to working with Senators on both sides of the aisle to move forward on this critical national effort to end our dependence on foreign oil, keep America at the head of innovation, and create millions of good-paying jobs for our workers.”
