I was deeply disappointed by the President's call for 'voluntary' pollution controls to combat global warming. In the 1970s we learned, with polluted rivers on fire, that if you don't have teeth behind your laws, it is cheaper for many companies to do nothing.

The Pacific Northwest stands to lose much from climate change – from increasingly severe storms, to rising sea levels, to negative impacts on forests, coasts, salmon and agricultural lands. These resources define our quality of life and help sustain our economy. We owe it to ourselves and our children to take concrete action now.
