(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) met with Under Secretary of Energy KrisMeeting with Kristina Johnson, Under Secretary  of Energytina Johnson to discuss the importance of utilizing assets of environmental management sites, like Hanford, for next generation clean energy projects that will lead to jobs and economic growth for communities after cleanup projects have been completed. During their discussion, Johnson indicated that DOE was actively looking into and committed to moving forward on this issue.

“It is critical for our cleanup communities that they are able to transition to a new economic base once the cleanup of environmental sites is completed,” said Senator Murray. “Using sites like Hanford for the creation of clean energy parks will create long-term jobs and economic growth, helping communities prosper long after cleanup projects are finished.”
