Funding secured by Sen. Murray will be released by Transportation Department September 23rd

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Sen. Patty Murray announced that more than four million dollars to build a new park-and ride lot near Interstate 90 will be released on September 23, 2002. Murray secured the federal funds in last year's Transportation Appropriations bill. The Federal Transit Administration, which administers the grant, will make the formal announcement next week.

The $4,295,423 will go to the King County Department of Transportation to support the design, right-of-way acquisition, and construction of the new park-and-ride lot.

"The transportation crisis facing our region is threatening our economy and our way of life," said Murray. "I am proud to have secured this important funding for the I-90 park-and-ride lot to reduce commute times and improve the quality of life for King County residents."

Murray, who serves as Chair of the Senate Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, wrote the bill that provided the funding for the I-90 park-and-ride. Congress approved Murray's bill late last year.
