Federal funds mean more parking, easier commutes for Lakewood-area riders

WASHINGTON, D.C.) – Senator Patty Murray today announced that $1.1 million to expand parking at the SR-512 park-and-ride lot in Lakewood will be released on November 15, 2002. Murray secured the federal funds in last year's Transportation Appropriations bill. The Federal Transit Administration (FTA), which administers the grant, will make the formal announcement later this week.

The $1.1 million in FTA funds will be disbursed to the Central Puget Sound Regional Transit Authority to support preliminary construction and environmental work to expand parking capacity for the Lakewood lot.

"The transportation crisis facing our region is threatening our economy and our way of life," said Murray. "I am proud to have secured this important funding for the SR-512 park-and-ride lot to help address the challenges and to improve the quality of life for central Puget Sound residents."

Murray, who serves as Chair of the Senate Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, provided the funding for the SR-512 park-and-ride in the fiscal year 2002 Transportation Spending bill. Congress approved Murray's bill late last year.
