Federal grant money will support runway improvements

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-Wash.) today announced a total of $2.6 million in federal support to groove and rehabilitate the runways at Walla Walla Regional Airport. The Airport Improvement Program (AIP) grants, approved by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), will be disbursed this week.

"Maintaining the function and safety of Washington's runways is a top priority," Murray said. "Thanks to these grants, Walla Walla Regional can make the improvements it needs to run safely, and at full capacity, and to expand at a time when many of our nation's airports are struggling."

As Chair of the Senate Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, Senator Murray secured the funding for the improvement projects at Walla Walla Regional in the fiscal year 2002 Transportation Appropriations bill.
