(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-Wash.) today announced $980,000 in federal funds to increase seatbelt use in Washington state.

The current rate of seatbelt use in the state is around 82.6%. The funds, provided by the U.S. Department of Transportation, will support the production and broadcast of public service announcements encouraging all Washington state residents to use seatbelts.

"I am pleased to announce funding to encourage Washington state residents to buckle up," said Senator Murray. "Nothing is more important than the health and safety of our communities. The greater the public awareness about seatbelt safety, the more lives we can save."
