Dollars will support environmental review, design for buses in south downtown Seattle

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-Wash.) today announced a federal grant of $1,471,463 for the King County Department of Transportation.

The funds, targeted for King County in the 2002 Transportation Spending bill that Senator Murray authored, will support environmental reviews and preliminary engineering of buses in the south downtown area of Seattle.

"I am pleased to announce these grants to improve the environmental safety and design of buses in King County," Senator Murray said. "Environmentally friendly buses mean cleaner air and better health for the residents of King County."

Many of the buses in Washington state have been on the road for over ten years. Current environmental reviews and new designs are critical to reducing emissions and pollutants.

The U.S. Department of Transportation will release the Federal Transportation Administration grant on March 8, 2002.
