(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – The U.S. Senate today passed Senator Murray's Transportation Appropriations bill, a $60 billion package that funds transportation projects throughout the country as well as the budgets of the Coast Guard and Department of Transportation.

Senator Murray (D-Wash.) released the following statement:

"The Senate today took an important step forward in addressing the important transportation needs of this country.

Congestion on our roads and at our airports continues to frustrate passengers and impede our nation's productivity. This bill will address those challenges and improve our infrastructure.

It also includes desperately needed funding for safety measures – to support the Coast Guard in protecting our waterways and the Office of Pipeline Safety to protect our communities.

I am also pleased, that despite the objections of a small, but determined minority of Senators, this bill retained all of its safety requirements for Mexican trucks to gain access to America's highways.

The concerns over the safety of Mexican trucks industry are well known, and will be addressed by this bill. The common-sense compromise crafted by Sen. Shelby and me, will promote free trade and protect our citizens.

The bill will now go to conference, where I look forward to working with the House and the Administration."
