While I am heartened that Congress has finally taken up campaign finance reform, I am disappointed that the first step the Senate has taken to amend the McCain-Feingold bill is to open the door to allowing more money into the system.

The Senate's action to approve the Domenici amendment runs contrary to all of the stated aims of campaign finance reform. If our goal is to reduce the influence of money in politics, then how will increasing the contribution limits help us achieve this goal?
