530 Slide: Murray Applauds $35 Million in Federal Funding to Rebuild Highway Impacted by the Slide

(Washington, D.C.) –Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) applauded a decision from the U.S. Department of Transportation that Washington state will receive $35 million in federal funding under the Federal Highway Administration’s Emergency Relief (ER) program for the repair or reconstruction of the Federal-aid highway that suffered serious damage as a result of natural disasters or catastrophic failures from an external cause.

“I’ve heard from so many families and businesses in Snohomish County who have told me just how important it is to rebuild State Route 530, so I’m very glad the Department of Transportation has made these funds available so work can continue,” Senator Murray said. “This funding is truly essential, and it demonstrates the federal government’s ongoing commitment to supporting these communities as they recover from the slide.”

These U.S. Department of Transportation ER program funds are awarded after the President or the Governor issues a formal emergency declaration and the state files a request for ER for the cost of damages to its eligible highways.  Eligible repair work includes emergency repairs needed to restore essential traffic, minimize the extent of damage, or protect the remaining facilities as well as permanent repairs necessary to restore the highway to its pre-disaster condition.  More about the grant HERE.
