Murray Announces Transportation Funding for I-82/SR-240 Interchange

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-Wash.) today announced that $2,980,500 in federal grants for the I-82/SR-240 Interchange will be released on June 11th.

The Federal Highway Administration Interstate Maintenance grants were funded under the fiscal year 2003 Transportation spending bill. As the ranking Democrat on the Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, Senator Murray made funding for improvements to the I-82/SR-240 Interchange a top priority.

“I am pleased to announce the release of these funds for one of the most important transportation routes in our state,” Senator Murray said. “By reconstructing the I-82/SR-240 Interchange, we will be improving the safety of our communities while paving the way for new economic growth in South Central Washington. I am proud to have secured this funding and to continue to fight for families across our state.”

Senator Murray secured the funding for the I-82/SR-240 Interchange, in the fiscal year 2003 Transportation spending bill, which was passed by Congress in February.

The project will provide improvements on SR 240 adjacent to the widened Yakima River Bridge to ultimately allow use of all lanes on the bridge. Between Richland and the Yakima River Bridge, an overpass over I-82 will be widened; on and off ramps will also be widened to the width of the modified bridge.
