Sen. Murray Statement on the President’s Clean Power Plan

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) released the following statement after President Obama and EPA Administrator McCarthy released the final Clean Power Plan, which establishes the first-ever national standards to limit carbon pollution from power plants.

“I applaud the Obama Administration for this historic step forward to limit our country’s carbon footprint and invest in our clean energy economy. Not only will the President’s plan improve the health of millions of Americans, it will also create thousands of jobs and save families money each month by reducing their energy costs. Washington state is already seeing the impacts of climate change, including on our forests, coasts, salmon habitat, and farmland. We have a responsibility to preserve these precious natural resources for generations to come.

“The common-sense plan finalized today will limit dangerous pollution and help turn the tide on climate change – an environmental challenge that we owe to our children and grandchildren to address responsibly. Washington state is a leader on cutting harmful emissions and fighting climate change, and I am glad to see the Administration take these necessary steps to invest in clean energy technologies and energy efficiency improvements across the country that will benefit communities and the economy.”
