Fort Lewis: Senator Murray Announces More than $50 Million in Recovery Funding for Military Infrastructure

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) announced that $54,696,000 has been made available in Washington state by the Department of Defense for infrastructure repairs at Fort Lewis.  This funding was included in the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009 (ARRA).

“Investing in our military infrastructure here in Washington state is absolutely critical as we work toward economic recovery,” said Senator Patty Murray. “This funding will provide a boost to our economy while ensuring that our men and women in Fort Lewis have safe and modern facilities.”

As a senior member of the Military Construction and Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee, Senator Murray worked to ensure that investments in our nation’s military bases were included in the Recovery Act.  Senator Murray voted to pass the Recovery Act on February 13th. The bill was signed into law by President Obama on February 17th. 

  • Repair Small Arms Ranges:  $1,500,000
  • Major Range Road Repairs: $2,226,000
  • Repair Heat Distribution Piping: $10,570,000
  • Repair/Replace Transformers and Vaults: $2,000,000
  • Repair/Upgrade Fire Suppression Systems: $3,500,000      
  • Replace Stack on Boiler Plants: $3,400,000      



    Total Fort Lewis Funding:  $54,696,000
