HEALTH CARE: FDA Bill Passes Senate, to be Signed Into Law

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) applauded the Senate passage of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Safety and Innovation Act by a vote of 92-4. This legislation will provide the FDA with the necessary tools to support innovation and provide access to live-saving medicines. The bill includes Senator Murray’s Better Pharmaceuticals and Devices for Children Act, which will make sure children are prioritized in the drug and device development process. This bill has already passed the House and will now be headed to the President for his signature.

“This is great news for the millions of families who rely on medical innovation to help them and their loved ones.  I want to commend my colleagues on both sides of the aisle for working together to pass this critical legislation today.

“I am especially grateful for the bipartisan support I received as I worked to include provisions to make sure drugs and medical devices are specifically tested, labeled, and proven to be safe and effective for children. America’s children should never be an afterthought when it comes to the safety and effectiveness of our nation’s drugs and medical devices and I’m proud that this bill will help us accomplish that goal.”
