(Washington, D.C.) – Today, Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) commemorated the tragic shooting at Marysville-Pilchuck High School in Washington state that took the lives of four students and the shooter, and injured one on October 24th, 2014. She also announced $2.1 million in aid from the Department of Justice that will go toward the community’s rebuilding and recovery, including funds for mental health services.
“Though the pain experienced by the Marysville-Pilchuck community is still so new, I am inspired by the resilience of everyone who has come together and remained ‘MP Strong.’ Each and every day we remember the students whose lives were cut far too short, and it is up to us to honor their memories.” said Senator Murray. “Unfortunately this is not an isolated incident. From Seattle Pacific University, to Roseburg, to so many other communities across the country—this is happening far too often, and it’s long past time to act. I am so glad to see Marysville receive this federal support to provide mental health services and other assistance to those involved. And I will keep pushing my colleagues in Congress to finally act to address gun violence and do everything possible to prevent tragedies like this.”
