Murray Announces $600,000 Grant for Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) announced a total of over $8.3 million in federal support for critical airport improvement projects across Washington state, including a $600,000 grant for Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport in Pullman.

Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport will use this grant – provided through the Airport Improvement Program (AIP) – to conduct an Airport Master Plan Study.  This study will enable the airport to make sound financial management decisions, as well as prioritize development needs.

"I’m pleased that we are investing in Pullman-Moscow Regional Airport so it can continue to play a strong role in supporting the economy and transportation needs of Eastern Washington," said Senator Murray.  "This airport is a vital piece of the transportation infrastructure in the Palouse region, and this funding will help the airport plan for the future."

AIP grants, which are administered by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), provide funding for infrastructure improvements that enhance efficiency and safety at airports.  Murray, the Chair of the Transportation, Housing and Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations Subcommittee that oversees funding for the FAA, helped secure this funding in the FY07 THUD Appropriations bill.

Senator Murray has been a strong advocate for infrastructure improvements at Pullman-Moscow Regional.   She also supported a $1.8 million DOT grant that was awarded to the airport in 2005 for improvements to the runway safety area.  That funding allowed the airport to accommodate larger aircraft.
