Murray Announces Economic Recovery Funding to Help Quileute Tribe Build Affordable Housing

(Washington, D.C.) – Today U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) announced that the Quileute Housing Authority will receive $600,000 in funding from the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (Recovery Act) to build new housing The funding, which will go toward the construction of 5 new houses, was awarded on a competitive basis using money allotted in the Recovery Act for Indian Community Development Block Grants (ICDBG). The ICDBG program helps Native American tribes build housing, improve communities, promote energy efficiency and create jobs.

“This is great news for the Quileute Tribe as they work to provide quality, affordable housing for their members,” said Senator Murray. “It is also another example of Recovery Act funding going to support jobs, build communities and improve lives.”

As Chairman of the Senate Housing Appropriations Subcommittee which oversees funding for the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Senator Murray worked to include significant funding for affordable housing projects that help generate jobs, improve communities, and spur economic development in the Recovery Act.

Senator Murray voted to pass the Recovery Act on February 13th. The bill was signed into law by President Obama on February 17th.
