Murray Announces Huge Win for Naval Station Everett

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray, Chairman of the Senate Veterans’ Affairs Committee and member of the Defense Appropriations Subcommittee announced that over the next seven years the Navy plans to replace each of the three frigates currently based at Naval Station Everett with new or modified destroyers, bringing the total number of destroyers that will homeport at the base to five.  Senator Murray has pushed the Navy to homeport more destroyers at Naval Station Everett, and this announcement is a victory both for the base and for the greater Everett community.

“This is a major victory for Naval Station Everett, and it could not have been done without the tremendous support the community gives the base ,” said Senator Murray. “I’m so glad the Navy has taken note of all Naval Station Everett has to offer.”

The Navy will homeport the destroyers to replace the frigates USS Ford (FFG 54), USS Rodney M. Davis (FFG 60), and USS Ingraham (FFG 61) as they are decommissioned. The destroyers will be a mix of new and modified ballistic missile defense-capable ships.
