Murray Announces Job-Creating Grants for Small Shipyards in Bellingham and Seattle

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA)
announced that two Washington state small shipyards will receive a total
of $1,976,362 to make critical infrastructure investments that will
help them continue to grow and create jobs in the state. The grants came
through the Maritime Administration’s (MARAD) Supplemental Grants for
Assistance to Small Shipyards program. As the Chairman of the
Transportation and Housing Appropriations Subcommittee overseeing
funding for the Department of Transportation and MARAD, Murray fought to
include support for small shipyards in this year’s budget.

“I’m
thrilled that small shipyards in Seattle and Bellingham will get this
crucial financial boost to help them create jobs and make vital capital
improvements,” Senator Murray said.  “Small shipyards in Washington
state are a critical piece of our domestic maritime industry and our
economy.  Especially while families in Washington state continue to
struggle, these grants are important to helping our domestic shipping
industry stay strong and competitive.”

The
following Washington state shipyards received grants today:

  • Pacific Fishermen Shipyard and Electric LLC
(Seattle, WA)- $643,095 for worker training program, sand blast paint
and booths, sand blast grit recovery systems, man lifts and 15-ton crane
