Murray Applauds Announcement of Industry Competition to Improve Veterans Care, Encourages Washington State Businesses to Participate

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray
(D-WA), a senior member of the Veterans’ Affairs Committee, applauded the
opening of the Industry Innovation Competition by the Department of Veterans
Affairs, the most recent effort under the VA Innovation Initiative. With this
competition, VA seeks the best ideas from the private sector to address the
department’s most important challenges.

“Addressing
the challenges facing veterans is a top priority for providing better care,”
Senator Murray said. “Encouraging Washington state
businesses to find innovative solutions to these challenges will create jobs,
spur economic growth, and produce the highest quality care for our brave men
and women returning home from duty.”

The VA Innovation Initiative (VAi2) is a program
that brings the most promising innovations to VA’s most important challenges by
involving employees and the private sector in the creation of visionary
solutions in service to Veterans.

Public and private companies, entrepreneurs, universities
and non-profits are encouraged to participate in the competition, which targets
advancements in housing technology, health care, and tools to assist veterans
in starting businesses.
