Four Hispanic-Serving Institutions in central Washington will receive more than $2.2 million in grants
(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Ranking Member of the Senate Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee applauded an announcement from the U.S. Department of Education that four central Washington colleges and universities will receive Developing Hispanic-Serving Institutions program grants. Heritage University, Yakima Valley Community College in collaboration with Central Washington University, Big Bend Community College, and Columbia Basin College will receive more than $2.2 million in funding to assist in expanding educational opportunities and helping more Latino students earn their degrees.
“Today’s announcement is great news for students in our state, as they further their education and earn their ticket to the middle class,” said Senator Murray. “Investing in a highly educated workforce is good for our economy, and these grants are critical to expanding opportunities for Latino students to succeed in higher education.”
