Murray Applauds Washington State Clean-Energy and Training Investments for Energy-Efficient Construction

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray
(D-WA) applauded the announcement made by U.S. Energy Secretary Steven Chu that
Washington state will receive nearly $2 million in funding for energy-efficient
research and job training programs. The funding, awarded from the American
Recovery and Reinvestment Act, will help provide Washington state workers with
the skills they need to secure jobs in energy-efficient construction projects.

“With families across Washington state still reeling
from job losses, it’s important to provide workers with the skills they need to
secure jobs in the growing field of energy-efficient building,”
said
Senator Murray.
“Washington state is a national leader in the
energy-efficiency sector and this research and training will help ensure that
our workforce remains strong and able to fill the jobs of the 21st century
economy.”

University of Washington – $1,196,580

The University of Washington will receive $1,196,580 in
the project area of Analysis, Design, and Technical Tools with a focus on
improving the capability to simulate complex interactions between building
elements, including climate, envelope heat and moisture transfer, internal heat
gains, lighting power, HVAC equipment, controls, thermal and visual comfort,
and energy costs.

Northwest Energy Efficiency Council – $549,169

The Northwest Energy Efficiency Council will receive
$549,169 to develop a training program for commercial building equipment
technicians.
