Murray Secures $6 Million for Salmon Recovery in the Puget Sound Region

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-Wash.) today secured $6 million in the Senate Energy and Water Appropriations bill to help recover salmon in the Puget Sound region.

Murray added:

  • $1.5 million for the Puget Sound Nearshore Marine Habitat Restoration study

  • $2.5 million for the Green and Duwamish River Ecosystem Restoration effort

  • $2 million for the Puget Sound and Adjacent Waters program

“Protecting salmon is vital to preserving our way of life in Washington state and throughout the Pacific Northwest,” Senator Murray said. “We have asked a great deal of local communities in protecting and restoring salmon, and the federal government must also do its part. I’m proud to have secured critical funding for this effort in the Senate.”

The President and the House provided no funding for either the Green and Duwamish River Ecosystem Restoration effort or the Puget Sound and Adjacent Waters program.

The bill now goes before the full Senate Appropriations Committee for approval.
