Murray Statement on Appointments of Group Health Cooperative’s Scott Armstrong to the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission

(Washington,
D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) released the following
statement on the appointment of Scott Armstrong to the Medicare Payment
Advisory Commission (MedPAC). Armstrong is currently President and Chief
Executive Officer of Group Health Cooperative.

“I
am very glad that Scott Armstrong has been appointed to MedPAC. He has been an
innovative leader at Group Health Cooperative, and I am confident that he will
bring a strong Washington state perspective to federal Medicare policy.

“Washington
state is a national leader in health care system innovation and at MedPAC Scott
will be in a position to share the success stories of Washington state,
including Group Health’s coordinated care model that developed under his
leadership.

“We
also need to make sure that Medicare reimbursement rates reward providers for
continuing to treat patients efficiently and well. This is especially important
as we ensure health insurance reform works for seniors and doctors. And I
believe that Scott’s background, experience, and expertise will help make that
a reality.”
