Murray Statement on Bush Budget

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-Wash), the second-ranking Democrat on the Senate Budget Committee and a key member of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today responded to the President’s fiscal year 2009 budget request to Congress.

"With his final budget request to Congress, the President gave us more of the same.  More promises, fewer dollars.  More rhetoric, less investment in America.

"President Bush talked a good game in his State of the Union address, but now we see what his real priorities are.  From security and health care to education and housing, the President cut.  Instead of investment, he gave us red ink.

"For seven years America has paid dearly for the investments this President has failed to make.  Our economy is lagging, our infrastructure is crumbling and we are paying for a misguided war on the backs of our grandchildren.

"Investing in the priorities of America’s families takes true commitment, something this President has failed to provide.  It is time for a change."
