Murray Statement on Corporation for National and Community Service 20th Anniversary

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) released the following statement commemorating the Corporation for National and Community Service’s (CNCS) upcoming 20th anniversary:

“I have always been a strong, proud supporter of AmeriCorps, Senior Corps, and Learn and Serve America for the work these programs do in Washington state and across the country.  Since 1993, these programs have allowed millions of Americans to reap the benefits of performing community service while supporting their education and benefitting schools, disaster victims, homeless shelters and domestic violence centers, the environment, and our veterans.

“In my home state of Washington, Corps members are serving with several of our most important civic organizations including Habitat for Humanity, City Year, the Red Cross, and the Boys and Girls Club. The critical work they perform each and every day, from mentoring children struggling in school, to helping build a home for a family who needs one, and much more, is invaluable.

“These Corps members represent the best our country has to offer– service to our communities and to our fellow citizens.

“I congratulate CNCS on their incredible 20 years of service, and look forward to seeing the impact the Corporation will make over the next 20 years.”
