Senate Bill Could Give Millions of Dollars to Tri-City Projects

TRI-CITIES, Wash– A
new Senate bill could mean millions of dollars for transportation and
health care projects in the Tri-Cities.

Senator
Patty Murray is the front-runner of this bill and says it will create
more jobs. The Senate bill would provide more than two million dollars
to extend Steptoe South to 10th Ave.

Right now it ends here at Gage, and this is just
the beginning of where construction could begin.

The Senate Omnibus
Bill could send millions of dollars our way to make improvements. The
biggest project is extending Steptoe St. and it would take some of the
congestion off of Gage and Columbia Center Blvds.

“Long term it really
makes a huge difference in the transportation of both Kennewick and
Richland,” said Bob Hammond, Kennewick City Manager.

The plan is to have Steptoe stretch all the way
to 10th Ave. This bill provides enough funding for the city to build
over the railroad near Clearwater Ave.

“We’re
thrilled with our congressional delegation and they’ve stepped up to
once again support us,” said Hammond.

The bill also gives $800,000 to Kadlec Medical
Center to help remodel their neonatal intensive care unit, they are
really in need of extra room to care for premature babies.

“Since 2002 we were
at 1,250 babies being delivered here at Kadlec and last year in six
years time that total was 1,000 more,” said Larry J. Christensen, Kadlec
Foundation.

The
Port of Benton’s Demonstration Project could receive almost a million
dollars to produce biomass energy.

The bill gives Ben Franklin Transit over a
million and half dollars to expand it’s maintenance building, and almost
$200k to the design a road to Hanford’s B Reactor to open it for public
tours.
