Senator Murray Announces $2.6 Million for Richland Airport in Recovery Funding

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) announced that $2,600,000 has been released to the Port of Benton by the Department of Transportation to rehabilitate the runway at Richland Airport.

“Investing in Washington state’s airports is absolutely critical as we work toward economic recovery,” said Senator Patty Murray. “This funding will ensure that Richland Airport has the resources it needs to rehabilitate its runway, while providing a boost to the local economy and creating jobs.”

This money comes from $1.1 billion for airport capital improvements included in the recovery package and made available through the Airport Improvement Program of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA).

As chair of the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations subcommittee, Senator Murray worked to ensure that investments in our state’s airports were included in the Recovery Act.  Senator Murray voted to pass the Recovery Act on February 13th. The bill was signed into law by President Obama on February 17th.
