Senator Murray Announces More than $1 million in Security Equipment for Sea-Tac Airport

Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) announced that $1,158,203 in equipment has been allocated for Sea-Tac Airport by the Department of Homeland Security to enhance security capabilities.  The allocation is part of $50 million in American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds nationwide allocated for explosive detection systems and advanced technology X-ray units that will streamline baggage screening and enhance security capabilities at airports nationwide.

“Investing in security upgrades for Washington state’s airports is absolutely critical as we work toward economic recovery,” said Senator Patty Murray. “This funding will ensure that Sea-Tac remains secure by providing high-tech security equipment and ensuring an efficient and effective screening process—while providing a boost to the economy and sustaining jobs.”

As chair of the Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development Appropriations subcommittee, Senator Murray worked to ensure that investments in our nation’s airports were included in the Recovery Act.  Senator Murray voted to pass the Recovery Act on February 13th. The bill was signed into law by President Obama on February 17th.
