Senator Murray Applauds Announcement of Teaching Health Center in Yakima

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray
(D-WA) applauded an announcement made by Health and Human Services Secretary
Kathleen Sebelius that a Teaching Health Center would be located in Yakima as
part of the Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education program. Yakima
was one of 11 sites chosen for this program.

“I’m
so glad that Yakima was chosen for this program that will create jobs and train
the primary care physicians and dentists we need to offer quality care to local
families.”
said
Senator Murray.
“As our region’s innovative health care industry
continues to grow, investing in the health care workforce is one of the
smartest job creation efforts we could pursue.”

The
Teaching Health Center Graduate Medical Education program is a five-year
program that will support an increased number of primary care medical and
dental residents trained in community-based settings across the country. The
centers will be supported by funds made available through the Affordable Care
Act and will help address the need to train primary care physicians and
dentists in our nation’s communities.
