Senator Murray Attends Kickoff Event for Aviation Industry Partnership with USDA to Develop Clean Jet Fuels

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray
(D-WA) applauded the announcement of a strategic partnership between the United
States Department of Agriculture (USDA) and private industry to promote the
development of aviation biofuels. The “Farm to Fly” sustainable aviation
biofuels initiative will bring together federal agencies, research
organizations, and private industry to advance a plan to promote sustainable
aviation biofuels and rural development.

“I’m looking forward to working closely with this
group on the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead as we work to develop
the next generation of aviation fuel in Washington state and across the
country,”
said Senator Murray. “A greater emphasis on biofuels
will support Washington state farmers growing dedicated energy crops. It will
also promote economic growth in rural communities and lead to a more
sustainable and independent energy source for our aerospace industry.”

The start of this national effort to develop alternative
jet fuels follows the announcement made earlier this week of the Sustainable
Aviation Fuels Northwest pilot project to promote biofuel development in the
Northwest. This regional group includes Alaskan Airlines, Boeing, Portland
International Airport, Seattle-Tacoma International Airport, Spokane
International Airport, and Washington State University.
