(Washington, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), the top Democrat on the Senate education committee, announced a new social media initiative to highlight messages of celebration and inspiration from Washington state graduates, many of whom were not able to attend in-person graduation ceremonies because of the COVID-19 pandemic. Senator Murray posted the first message, which features Olivia Parrish of CAM Academy in Vancouver, to her Twitter account and will be posting more videos on her social media accounts over the coming weeks.

“While this year’s graduation may not be the moment students across Washington state initially imagined at the beginning of their academic journeys, I have been so impressed by the ways in which they have risen to the challenges of these difficult times,” Senator Murray said. “I wanted to give those hard-working students the opportunity to share what they’ve learned, what they’re looking forward to, and any words of hope to the rest of the Class of 2020.”
