Senator Murray Statement on Conservation Report to President Biden’s National Climate Task Force

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) released the following statement on the preliminary report from various federal agencies to President Biden’s National Climate Task Force released today.

“I’m glad to see President Biden and Vice President Harris set our first-ever national goal to conserve America’s natural spaces, embarking on an ambitious effort to conserve 30% of our lands and waters by 2030. It’s critical that we conserve America’s land and waters for the benefit of all people in order to create jobs, support healthy communities, and tackle the climate crisis. As they note, this conversation has to include everyone who relies on our country’s bountiful natural resources and spaces—including Tribes, fishers, farmers, ranchers, conservationists, and more. Our work should be led by science, we need to honor Tribal sovereignty and priorities, and we must support ongoing voluntary stewardship efforts. I’m committed to partnering closely with the Biden Administration to continue our proud American tradition of conservation—we can ensure that the forests, fields, rivers, and oceans that Washington state families enjoy and benefit from will be maintained for decades to come.”
