Murray secured $1.6 million for International Community Health Services to expand its Aging in PACE program

(Seattle, WA) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, toured an International Community Health Services (ICHS) clinic and heard from residents and clinic staff about how the $1.6 million in funding she secured last year for the clinic is helping serve more seniors. ICHS is using funding Senator Murray secured to expand elder care provided through its Aging in PACE program by constructing a new adult day center and clinic in Beacon Hill, which it broke ground on last fall.

“I know everyone here is united in a common goal: providing the best possible care for our seniors. And while we have to stay focused on providing essentials like quality health care and housing—it’s also about giving our seniors the support they need to age with dignity and respect, regardless of their economic status or race,” said Senator Murray. ICHS is a perfect example of how a community can come together and provide top-of-the line, culturally-informed care to anyone who needs it. I’m glad I was able to secure funding for you to take this work to the next level by creating a space to provide all kinds of care and supports under one roof.”

Senator Murray secured $1.59 million dollars for International Community Health Services through Congressionally-Directed Spending as a part of the spending bill Murray helped author and pass in December—Murray delivered $284 million in Congressionally-Directed Spending for local projects across Washington state in that December spending package alone.

Murray has also made fighting to expand access to home- and community-based services for older adults, people with disabilities, and injured workers a priority—while also advocating to improve benefits for caregivers providing essential care. Last month, she joined Senator Bob Casey (D-PA) in reintroducing the Better Care Better Jobs Act to invest in this care nationwide and address the caregiving crisis.
