Senator Murray’s Statement on JBLM Brigade Combat Team Realignment

WASHINGTON, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) released the following statement after the Department of Defense announced it would be inactivating one of three Brigade Combat Teams at Joint Base Lewis-McChord:

“Today’s news is disappointing for many in the JBLM community, including me, but I’m encouraged the Army will add battalions to other Brigade Combat Teams on base.   These changes are never easy and they will be a tough adjustment for the community, but they come as a result of the end of combat operations in Iraq and the reduction of operations in Afghanistan. In the coming months, I will continue working closely with JBLM leadership, community partners in the South Sound, and all those directly affected to make this transition as seamless as possible.

“JBLM remains one of the premier military installations in America. From the 2nd Ranger Battalion, to Madigan’s world class medical facility, to the 1st Special Forces Group – JBLM is home to some of our nation’s best and brightest who put on the uniform and serve our country with honor. I am committed to supporting these heroes and their families on and off the battlefield, and I will continue to be a champion for JBLM in the United States Senate.”
