(Washington,
D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) released the following
statement after the Senate’s unanimous confirmation of General David Petraeus
as Commander of U.S. Forces in Afghanistan.
“It is incredibly important that our troops on the ground have a
qualified, experienced commander like General Petraeus.
“Like all Americans, I want to see progress in Afghanistan.
And that is why I have worked to provide the necessary training, equipment, and
resources that our troops need to perform their jobs and return home
safely.
“I still have questions about our strategy and objectives over the
long term and will continue to raise these questions and demand answers in the
months ahead.
“And I am still concerned about the impact of this war on our
servicemembers and veterans. I know that our responsibility to our
wounded warriors doesn’t end on the battlefield, and I will continue to keep
fighting to support our men and women in uniform when they have returned home.”
