Senator Murray’s Statement on U.S. Grounding of Boeing Aircrafts

Washington, D.C. —Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) released the statement below following an announcement from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) temporarily prohibiting the operation of Boeing’s 737 MAX aircraft by U.S. airlines or in a U.S. territory:

Nothing is more important than the safety of families and travelers, so I am glad that Boeing and the FAA are working together and acting out of an abundance of caution to keep these planes on the ground as they investigate the cause of these recent accidents and see what needs to be done to make sure they don’t happen again. I am in contact with Secretary Chao and have told her that I stand ready to work with her to make sure the FAA has the resources they need to get to the bottom of this and make sure air travel remains safe and reliable for travelers in Washington state, across the country, and around the world.”
