TANKERS: Murray Encourages More People to ‘Join the Fight’

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) is once again encouraging constituents to join the fight on her website by denouncing the Air Force’s misguided decision to outsource a $35 billion air refueling tanker contract to the European-based company Airbus. Senator Murray’s renewed call to action comes shortly before an expected Government Accountability Office (GAO) decision on Boeing’s protest of the contract. The GAO is expected to rule on the legality of the selection process, but the scope of their investigation is very narrow. Murray has said that regardless of the GAO’s decision, Congress has a role in deciding whether the contract is good for the American military and economy.

"We are at a critical juncture in the fight to keep our aerospace industry strong and your voice is now more important than ever," said Senator Murray. "Nearly 60,000 people have joined our fight for America’s workers and the security of America’s fighting forces.  Now’s the time for Americans to make their voices heard.”

Murray will use the petition to help make her case as she works to fight the decision to give the contract to Airbus and its foreign workforce. To date, nearly 60,000 people have visited Senator Murray’s website, signed the petition, and joined the fight.
