TRANSPORTATION: Senator Murray’s Statement on President Obama Launching the Sixth Round of TIGER Infrastructure Competition

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray, Chairman of the Senate Transportation Appropriations Subcommittee, released the following statement after President Obama announced the newest round of the nationwide TIGER (Transportation Investment Generating Economic Recovery) grant program competition. Senator Murray authored the TIGER grant program as part of the American Recovery and Reinvestment Act of 2009.

“Year after year TIGER has proved that investing in infrastructure can transform communities and put Americans back to work. It is also a microcosm of what we could do if as a nation we made the broader investments we need to rebuild our crumbling infrastructure. I’ve seen in my own home state how TIGER is rebuilding bridges that businesses rely on and working to help ease congestion in areas that have been traffic nightmares for far too long. And every time I visit one of these TIGER projects I meet someone who is back on the job thanks to the federal funding we are reinvesting here at home. I commend the President for championing TIGER today and for putting forth a proposal to reauthorize surface transportation programs in order to make the long-term investment we desperately need.”
