TRI-CITIES: Murray Secures Funding for Major Transportation Project that Will Help Farmers Get Goods to Market

(Washington, D.C.) – Today, U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA) announced that she has included funding for a major Tri-Cities road project in the Fiscal Year 2010 Senate Transportation, Housing, and Urban Development (THUD) Appropriations bill.  As Chair of the THUD Subcommittee, Senator Murray has pushed to secure federal support for local Washington state projects that create jobs and make smart investments in long-term growth.

“Completing this project is critical to helping area farmers get their goods to market more efficiently,” said Senator Murray. “This is an investment in supporting local agriculture, strengthening the region’s trade capacity, and putting people to work.”

“This is Franklin County’s number one transportation priority,” said Rick Miller, Franklin County Commissioner.  “Let’s get it done.”

The key spending bill passed through the THUD Appropriations Subcommittee today, and will now move to the full Appropriations Committee for consideration.

R-170 Landslide Road Replacement, Franklin County: $2,000,000

This funding will provide for the final construction phase of realigning R-170 near Basin City, WA.

R-170 was blocked in 2006 from a major landslide, diverting farm-to-market trucks onto detour routes not capable of handling that daily load.  The completion of this realignment will expand freight mobility in the region and prevent further degradation of arterial roadways.
