Murray Announces $1.77 million DOT Grant for Bus Services in Port Townsend

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-Wash) today announced a $1.77 million federal Department of Transportation grant to Jefferson Transit for land acquisition, final design, project management and construction of an administrative and maintenance bus facility in Port Townsend.

“This funding will allow us to move forward with this important new facility for Port Townsend,” Murray said. “It’s part of our efforts to create jobs, improve quality of life, and provide better transportation options for residents of our state, and I’m excited to see this progress.”

Jefferson County’s Transit services have experienced rapidly growing demand in recent years. This new facility will allow for increased maintenance and repair capabilities, as well as new administrative offices for Jefferson Transit.

Murray secured the funds as the highest-ranking Democrat on the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Treasury, the Judiciary, and Housing and Urban Development. This grant is comprised of funds from fiscal years 2003, 2004, and 2005 that are now being distributed in response to completion of the environmental assessment phase of the project.
