Murray Announces Nearly $2 million DOT Grant For Transit Center in Burien

(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-Wash) today announced a $1.96 million federal Department of Transportation grant to the King County Department of Transportation for construction of a transit center in Burien.

“This funding will allow us to move forward with this important transportation project for Burien,” Murray said. “This new transit center is part of our efforts to create jobs, improve quality of life, and provide better transportation options for residents of the Puget Sound region, and I’m excited to see this progress.”

The City of Burien, in conjunction with the King County Metro, is in the process of redeveloping the downtown urban center and plans to construct a Transit Oriented Development at this site. It will incorporate a new off-street Bus Transit Center, off-street parking, multi-use housing, and office and retail uses.

Murray, the highest-ranking Democrat on the Senate Appropriations Subcommittee on Transportation, Treasury, the Judiciary, and Housing and Urban Development, has been a strong supporter of these efforts. She secured this funding as part of the FY03 Transportation Appropriations bill.
