SEQUESTRATION: Chairman Murray Calls for Public Input, Stories on Impact of Automatic Cuts

Washington, D.C—Today, Senate Budget Committee Chairman Patty Murray (D-WA) announced an expansion of her online tool, MyBudget, to allow members of the public to share their stories about the impact of sequestration as well as their thoughts on replacing it.

Thousands of people across the country have already weighed in on MyBudget with their ideas, stories, and priorities as the Senate worked to write and pass their budget. Chairman Murray wants to use this tool to make sure the stories and ideas from across the country on sequestration are being heard in Washington, D.C. as she fights to replace the automatic cuts in a balanced and responsible way.

The campaign launched today at http://budget.senate.gov/democratic/index.cfm/sequestration

Murray released the following statement about the expansion of MyBudget:

“A lot of people in Washington, D.C seem to think that sequestration is not a big deal, but when I go back home to Washington state, I hear a very different story. The impact of sequestration in communities across the country is real, it’s going to get worse, and elected officials here in D.C. need to hear about it as we work to replace it.

“So I am calling on people across the country to tell us how sequestration is impacting you, your family, and your community. I want to hear how important you think it is that elected officials work together to solve this problem, and I want to know your thoughts on some of the proposed solutions.”
