PENSIONS: Murray Applauds Committee Passage of Bipartisan Bill to Protect Pension Benefits at Charities, Cooperatives

WASHINGTON, D.C.—U.S. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), a senior member of the Health, Education, Labor, and Pensions (HELP) Committee, applauded today’s committee passage of the Cooperative and Small Employer Charity Pension Flexibility Act, legislation she co-sponsored and championed, which helps many not-for-profit cooperatives and charities continue to provide pension benefits to their workers.

“From charity organizations like the Girl Scouts to not-for-profit cooperatives in Washington state and across the country, this legislation will dramatically help civic-minded organizations provide critical pension benefits to their hardworking employees,” said Senator Murray.  The HELP Committee has taken the lead in working together to pass bipartisan legislation, and I will continue working with my colleagues to build on that momentum, pass this legislation in the full Senate and move forward.”

The Cooperative and Small Employer Charity Pension Flexibility Act gives not-for-profit cooperatives and charities more flexibility to sufficiently fund pension plans while devoting the limited resources they do have to their core missions.
